If so, the Culture Compass Project could be just what you’re looking for.
The Culture Compass project is designed to enhance and educate foreigners on the cultural knowledge of their new or host country, with the aim of fostering a sense of belonging, allowing for cultural integration, social inclusion and civic engagement.
During the project, immersive interactive material will be created, with the aim of bridging the gap between newcomers and their new or host countries, ensuring integration into new communities, and gaining a deeper understanding of the culture, traditions, and values.
Who is the Culture Compass project aimed at?
The Culture Compass project is designed to help foreigners currently residing in Spain, Portugal, and Ireland, between the ages of 18-30, with the aim of educating them through innovative and engaging educational content that will greatly contribute towards them feeling included and part of their new community.
The digital material created will provide a dynamic and engaging learning experience designed specifically to appeal to those aged 18-30.
The project aims to bridge the gap not only between newcomers and their new/host country, but also the generational gap due to the current lack of cultural knowledge in the target groups age range. Educating young people through the materials created will help with this, as well as social inclusion and the sense of belonging within their new communities.
Why is the Culture Compass project important?
The common goal of the project is to ensure cultural integration and social inclusion of foreigners currently residing in Spain, Portugal, and Ireland, between the ages of 18-30.
During the project, a supportive and inclusive learning environment will be created that motivates those currently residing in new or host countries, fostering cultural awareness and allowing adaption to new communities.
The partners of this project are experiencing high levels of foreigners currently residing in their countries. The diverse range of immigrants and migrants arriving within EU countries or moving to a different EU country has hugely increased over recent years.
According to www.europe.eu, “On 1 January 2022, 23.8 million citizens of non-member countries were residing in an EU Member State, representing 5.3% of the EU population. In addition, 13.7 million persons living in one of the EU Member States on 1 January 2022 were citizens of another EU Member State.” Of which, Spain is one of the countries with the highest number of non-nationals living in the member state, with over 5.4m in 2022. In the same year, more than 10% of the total resident population were non-nationals in Spain and Ireland. Eurostat report that in 2020 6.4% of Portugal’s population were non-nationals residing in the country. These figures show that the three partnering countries (Spain, Portugal and Ireland) have higher than the EU average of non-nationals currently residing.
